A Picture is Worth a Thousand Pageviews

An image in a post paints up a scene where a neon-lit signpost baths the floors of an alley with its brilliance on a moonless night. And it's because like the neon tube, a picture transmits info on a different wavelength effectively, creating knockout first impressions which casts a spell on visitors to your site. The offshoot of it all is your audience is furnished with picturesque cause to visit again.

Pictures can make or remake your blog. Should that statement interpret as “you can't enjoy a steady flow of traffic if you don't use images?” I could say yeah and we could argue about it all day. Thing is I'm not going to. What you can do for yourself is take a look around the WWW for a moment. Do the math and come up with your own conclusions. Surf any of the big sites, popular for its content. Did you notice the smattering of images on “every” article? Maybe, you should close your eyes and imagine the same page without the graphics. It is a fact you can’t unsee the upshot of pictures especially, if they are done well.

Images are magnets that attract attention. Sometimes, a well-timed portrait might be all it takes to pull a crowd. Take it from an angle; your title and content bring in one kind of folks and your images another. I think that kind of doubles the effect, if you catch my drift.

They are a good distraction, too (which is why you have to make a visual representation pass across some form of message). Readers will feast on these things if they are done magnificently. "An appropriate piece says a lot more about your content than the words themselves because pictures communicate on a level only pictures can." Besides, take a long look at some of those bare posts (yours or someone else's). I bet they seem a bit 'stripped.' Think of images as a covering for your write-ups. Has it ever crossed your mind how using images can land you and your blog a feature on Google Images search page and by extension, Google Search?

Some other payoff of blogging pictures is they give your blog an “official touch.” Your posts get the feel of a magazine or Ezine. But keep watch you do not fall into the trap of excess; there is such a thing as too many illustrations, you know? If you are not displaying art for the fun of it or pictures with quotes embedded or portraits of persons and/or books relevant to the topic under discussion, and unless your blog is especially, dedicated to photography, I'm not a stickler for rules but it would do you a world of good if you stick to two per post tops. If your readers can't see the post for the pics, that's a cue you're doing it wrong. Images are like wild flowers, they are good, but carefully picked ones are better.

One more as a parting gift and we're done here,
“If you have to paint a picture, use the brightest colors.”

Keep your pens bleeding.

Who We Be

Happy Independence Day, Nigeria!
So many tribes, ethnicity, dialects yet, so much love!

In the voice of B’ Haram victims

We don’t die we multiply
Right beyond the grave we stir up a rip-roaring legacy.
Death has been reassigned;
Decay clobbers the camp of the adversary.
We’ve acquired the laurels of our sacrifice
The feat is fused into the framework of history.

We don’t die.
We was planted and we thrived.
The fluid thru our veins is green
And our voices erupt still in the street.

We heard the critical retort;
The ratata of a lethal report
Declared you have been uninstalled.
Cause you didn’t belong in the tribe.

But we don’t die.
We just flow true like that great rushing river
In which over 300 tribes wash and pass the time.

We don’t die. We’re Nigeria.

Day 19: Oddball

streetartutopia.com

Rules are broken
To create an access into fresh token.
As curiosity conveys us across the threshold, we see
The law of creativity
Is without constraints.
And the workspace of ingenuity
Is a whole yard of opportunity and space.
When the individual violates a code of conduct,
And by that simple act experiences release,
We discover the significance of being the oddball
In the instructions insufficiency.
Thus, is life itself a reinventing of a process
Which conceals its expression in subtle evasiveness.
Eventually, things by all accounts, adverse
Contribute their part to recreate our universe,
By consistently etching prints of originality,
Like a picture painted with oil on canvas,
On an individuals bold divergent thinking.

Day 8: Fo'ever

Foever and a day
If it takes me this long to discover who I am
Then I'll take the plunge and not hesitate
I know when I do come thru (cause I will)
I will be the man of my dreams
And I'll fill up wasted time in a rage.
Yet at this very moment, even my shadow screams.

Fo'ever and a day
Before the question
I advanced by mere instinct.
What am I in here for?
I am compelled to spell it out distinct.
Even if it means stressing out
Every sentence in words of one syllable.
I don't want to run my course on vision illegible
Cause my skills will neither lie in a grave of dreams
Nor will my craft stand up for rust and decay
Until my individuality explodes beyond this reality and lives

Foever and a day.

3 Ways Music Can Plug the Creative Flow

Writers have penned elaborately regarding the sway of music in art. Songs have a tendency to dredge up inspiration from the depths and drag it screaming and kicking to the surface of the conscious mind; they can shoot the artist in a heartbeat, straight up into the zone. I’m not going to dwell much on that even though it’s right up my alley.

I’d like to tell you the idea for this article came whole and intact but it did not. If I hadn’t been dragging my heels, what you are reading would be in a slightly different shape than what obtains. I guess it worked out for the best. I’ve had time to figure out there are several lists kicking around on the internet with reference to songs that boost creativity.
So I backpedaled and decided instead to talk about how music can actually stall the creative process.

Crank up the Volume”
How far should a writer take the advice, “crank up the volume” during writing sessions? Besides the fact that sometimes you need the music turned down so the mind can better express itself in the comparative silence, working in a relatively noisy environment can make a naturally pleasant sound unbearably raucous and harsh like the situation in a henhouse.
Obeying the age-old advice may mean not getting any meaningful work done at all. Sometimes, plugging in earphones might help otherwise, it only makes it worse cause it brings the cacophony home to your eardrums and you’re the worse for it.

“I Like that Sound”
Remember the time you had your head buried deep in something and some tune came up on the radio and you just had to put the business on hold until the song played itself out? Have you had that happen to you while writing? It’s okay to listen to songs that call up memories. Those probably help you write better or to discover something to write about. But if all they do is make you stop and listen until the tune fades out, you’ll be better off saving those soundtracks for when the writings done. Singing along for a while might release the tension and nobody’s against that.

“Don’t Play that Song”
Some songs turn you on and some major in the opposite. It’s not wise to seek inspiration in the latter. You might spend the whole day in your writing room scowling at your sound system and that really ain’t going to get you any closer to your daily word quota. The moment you feel you have to tolerate the music; you ain’t vibin’ any longer and that’s when the muse takes his leave. You might as well call the whole deal off. If a tune plunges you down in the dumps, gives your flow the hiccups or creates the impression of a car engine making a squeaking noise then your inspiration wouldn’t jive with it, either. Whack the deadbeat.

There are several ways music ushers an artist into the presence of the muse but you must watch out for these three cause they can reverse the outcome of the influence and plug the creative flow, instead.

Keep your pen bleeding!

Walkin' Thro Walls.mp3 (Poetry Recital)

Click on the Walkin' Thro Walls link to listen.
Walkin' Thro Walls is a sort of poetry that reflects on life. The prospect of ending up with an unfinished life is highly featured in this verse. But the poet persona counters the fear of failure with affirmations in his own will to thrive and not back down to self doubt.
Walkin' Thro Walls is for you if you believe the man who fights back never loses no matter the outcome.

Science Fiction: Vehicle of Change

Long before I knew what the genre was called, an unalloyed sense of something deeper than awe always accompanied my views of any science fiction flick. The reason is not far-fetched cause the plot of a science fiction film 'looks like something that could happen' (advanced readers would call that plausible but my shoestring inventory couldn't afford such words at the time).

It is close to impossible reading or watching a movie or literature of the science fiction persuasion and not feeling the weight of urgency press down your pair of shoulders. No other genre drags you to the edge of your seat and sets your mind reeling off into forbidden places (were you to voice these in the dark ages, you’d be laughed out of court) that might be the future of the race of man. Science fiction is the one branch of literature that accepts the inevitability of change. Without the initial assumption that there will be change, there is no such thing as science fiction.*

Once upon a memory, a post I had authored averred predictions were staples of the science fiction genre and a commenter on Reddit almost bit my head off for it. Obviously, it meant a lot to him (or her) that Sci-Fi and predictions be on bad terms. Well, here I am with a typically wholesome head and I still stand by that declaration. To boot, although I do believe a science fiction story shouldn't portray something that is going to happen, before it can be important, I do not totally agree science fiction can survive and thrive as a genre that suggests change without forays into the predictive. Besides, a good deal of the world's inventive genius has been the upshot of this invention-triggering genre. Films, books and art presented in a form that all but screams in your face; this could happen anytime soon even though much of what is portrayed may seem off-the-wall.

Individuals who have been inspired by science fiction run into hundreds, thousands by extension. People who read science fiction come, in time, to know that things will be different.* Beneath all the rise of the machines and alien invasion is a tour-de-force genre which appeals fiercely to the imaginative genius within us all. Science fiction tunes us up and opens up our hearts to perceive why things need to be different. Why techniques will change, why cultures will evolve and what we must prepare our minds to accept as inevitable. It is the preview of both the immediate future and the distant.

Science fiction foresees the different and alerts its fans to stretch the wings of intuitiveness and get hold of a spontaneous stimulation of sorts. It prepares the minds of people for technological advancements and real engineers and scientists are challenged to get productive. This is the function of science fiction; to incite a need—a deep-seated craving for the over-the-top—a desire to seek out unusual and out-of-the-way technique of finding answers to many of life’s problems. A need for change.

Still Standing.mp3 (Poetry Recital)

Click the link above.
This is a recital of a poem I did way back 2012 for a poetry challenge called NaPoWriMo. I drafted this as a personal birthday present to eh... me. My birthday usually comes around on April 16th. But you can't be sure these days, that might change in the course of time, ugh?
Happy listening, though.
