Our Childhood Used to Know

quotesideas.com

Our childhood used to know
A fountain that gushed like the flow
Of a mighty rushing wind and stole
Thro the streets of our town, hauling the cold
In its wake yet, insulating us with a coat
Of love’s warmth squeezing a song from stone.

Our childhood used to know
A tale divine of a time long ago,
When a child wrapped in swaddling clothes
Slept on the hay for there was no place to go.
How blinding halos His coming to shepherds told,
And of wise men visiting the new-born with gifts bold.

Our childhood used to know
Of Christmas carols, sung till lungs did explode
While white-faced kids dared the harmattan to blow
And some other kids danced and raced in the snow.
But our happiest memories turn to Mama’s sweet bowl
Of wholesome heaps of rice, chicken and stew overflow.
When at the table we gathered and let the show
Commence and in that Christmas feast love was known.

The Way Christmas Is

How come we always find each other?
Is there a magic in December?
And what’s this feeling I feel inside?
I can tell you feel the same thro your eyes.

That’s just the way Christmas is.
You can’t explain it and I won’t pretend.
I guess it’s just the way the season is
Christmas is magic; it’s all we comprehend.

How come there’s a vibe when we connect?
Like something kicks in genuine and perfect
Is it that nameless emotion fired up?
Making words unnecessary and syncing thoughts?

How come I have you in my radar?
Yet we ain’t met, ain’t e’en together?
I don’t fight it and you’re yielded too.
Time taught us to flow with the attitude.

The Reason is Right

To give a gift that keeps on giving,
I make a move to keep my pen bleeding.
Until words slide off the page right thro the brain,
As your feelings bind and turn pain into gain.

And the season is ripe.
And the reason is right
To attack you with love this one mo’ time,
And drown your fears in joys of yuletide.

To translate a scene from my heart to paper,
I grope for words that’d flow much deeper.
That long after the paragraph is read,
The vibes will keep your feet sure on the ledge.

Stable Story

I hear your thoughts
Speak to me of a low-down universe.
I get swayed and ask, ‘how can these things be?’
Comes your sweet reply, ‘you can, if you’ll only believe.’

‘I’m crippled by my fears, how can I be strong?’
You answer, ‘There’s no fear in a season made for love.’
‘Does that mean, even for a tramp, no room for bias?’
‘Love was born in a stable why this is Christmas.’

I come as I am
A material witness to an irrefutable plan,
To testify that reality lives inside your hearts.
And if you truly believe that’ll only be a start.

Guest Blog: A Soldier's Christmas by Ken

This is poetry by a guy I met on Writing.Com; a Vietnam War veteran. He goes by the pen name HuntersMoon.
Enjoy!

A foot-tall artificial tree -
a decorated memory
of time spent with a family -
stands by his dusty bed.

A Christmas card sits underneath
with a bright yellow ribboned wreath.
A printed sign stands in relief –
“Daddy, come home soon.”

The gifts from home he’ll get this year
won’t fill his mind with Christmas cheer
though, for a moment, they’ll feel near.
He holds them in his heart.

He remembers carols that they sing
but knows the gift he’s offering
finds meaning in “Let freedom ring.”
He proudly stands his post.

It’s times like this that make him sad.
He should be home; husband and Dad
are parts of life that make him glad.
Such is his sacrifice.

For just a moment, his eyes tear
but in his mind, his vision’s clear
to keep his loved ones free from fear.
He straightens up with pride.

He whispers a familiar prayer
asking for God’s love and care
as he grips tight the cross he wears.
He heads out on patrol.

Afghanistan, the DMZ,
dozens of places we don’t see,
freedom’s gift is given free;
each soldier pays the price.

At home, another holiday
explaining why Dad is away.
“He’ll be home soon,” Mothers say.
Someday, perhaps, for good.

God bless those who serve
and the families that wait for their return.

Author’s Bio
I actually wrote this about me - thinking back to my first Christmas in Vietnam. It was an unhappy time but I believed in what I was doing (Little did I actually know *Laugh*)

You may feel free to use it in your blog ... Thank you for honoring me and the many who serve.

Jack Frost in Christmas Town

What if there was a Cthulhu tree that possessed paranormal powers to grant its owner's wishes? That would be pretty interesting, wouldn't it? 'Cause everybody would want to have a piece of such a tree especially, if it was a Christmas tree. What if this tree could not discern what was right from wrong-what if it granted any wish anybody asked it?

Now imagine what happens if this magical Christmas tree got in the wrong hands, the Jack-Frost-kind-of-hands? If you can imagine the bad stuff Mr. Frost could wish for, this poem sums all of that up in one rich stew of terrifying goodness.

O magical tree! From Christmas Town!
Won't you set me free, grant this one wish?
O magical tree! From Christmas Town!
Hope you won't deny me one simple wish!

One innocent wish of boom and doom for the world
Of men who flourish and bloom in gloom and cavort,
While their kids cherish balloons like loons with resolve.
Oh, they just boorish. Yet, soon these goons will be gone.
Lastly, they'll shh! like brooks these crooks will get plugged.
          How I wish my wish be thro and thro years to come;
One prayer to garnish the book and cook the outcome.
Cthulhu tree pray fish all rooms for oomph, let them burn!
I'll stanby'n relish the crude and cruel of the rut.
Make men impoverish'd. The good, make rude and deformed.

O magical tree! From Christmas Town!
Won't you set me free, grant this one wish?
O magical tree! From Christmas Town!
Hope you won't deny me one simple wish!

While the angels watch, make toast of hosts at Christmas.
Make men bear a grudge and ghost their foes with nerve gas.
May the whole world lurch with groans and moans and setbacks.
Ice their hearts and botch carol night shows, kill their laughs.
May kids sucker punch the robed and gloved St. Nicholas.
Use my breath and launch a bold and cold vengeful blast,
Steal joys with a touch of stoic hate stoke flames in grass.
Make earth a gray splotch and blow all hopes to breakfast.
Pick a lens and scorch their toes, dispose th'universe.
Just one wish as crutch then, go and close all Decembers.

O magical tree! From Christmas Town!
Won't you set me free, grant this one wish?
O magical tree! From Christmas Town!
Hope you won't deny me one simple wish!

          Grant that Christmas cease and brawls and growls seize the day;
Send Pandora's beast and crawlies gosh! just make hay.
Rain a plague release the gross and truss kids at play.
Take away all feasts, outbursts and crush t'holiday.
Bring it from the East encrust the Earth's horst with decay.
Blow grit like ground grist and thrust the frost thro the pane.
Raise hell break up tryst and cause the buzz lose its gait.
Fulfill my wishes, rebuff their bluff, trash their game.
Sever the cursed rift, repulse the Claus, prove him lame.
One wish apocalypse makes crumbs of all; that's my gain!

O magical tree! From Christmas Town!
Won't you set me free, grant this one wish?
O magical tree! From Christmas Town!
Hope you won't deny me one simple wish!

Card #3: Fair Salvage ft. MJ

MJ

I take a walk downtown
To where you used to meet me
There's joy everywhere
But all that’s waiting there is
Just a little Christmas tree
                   Michael Jackson,
                   Little Christmas Tree

If there’s anybody out there needs a lil’ lovin’
There’s somebody willing to give up a lil’ sum’thin’.
We two are far out and apart
And I know one of us got a fragile heart.

Love’s got its own infrared scope
And that needin’ of yours is heat in its radar.

Christmas is a bridge.
Like my Chrome browser, it’s waiting for cache.
The distance between us is one heartbeat.
Close your eyes to the world breach this chasm.

Feel the warmth of a million sun shines
As we explode on impact.
When I look into your eyes
I know I’ll get my groove back.
