Day 27: One Moment

Can I have one moment for all time?
One personal moment for a lifetime,
That space where I absorb all that’s mine,
Where all my purpose is duly aligned?

Can I have one second to treasure
The nameless beauties beyond measure?
My corner to cherish at leisure;
Can I get mine just for my pleasure?

Can I have one moment to exhale?
One magical moment to prevail,
That private place where distractions pale,
Where my identity is free to sail?

Can I have one lifetime to perfect
One moment in time and, connect
My soul with properties that reflect,
The image of the personality I covet?

Mr. President

Mr. President Barack Obama

How smooth I view you groove
The world moves whenever you move.
Your heart is true, your faith is strong
In you millions found rhythm and a song.

Courage’s snug in the bosom of a true friend
For you elegance has adopted a new name
You ease yourself into a task with pure grace,
You tackle it like it’s a game you was born to play.

And now you’ve gone and added beauty
To the color of black and all of humanity.
I’m cut up to say how you did the things you did,
But boundless time testifies to the glory of your story.

Otherside

For Syrian Refugees

Will I make it to the otherside?
Beyond this grave of dreams;
That special place where the imagination
Explodes in daylight?
My soul barely exists
Waiting thirstily for the delights
Of fulfillment in a world
Where patience is defeated.
It's hard not to kick against the goads
Cause the times is ill fated.
The quest for glory
Drains me and fills me with rage,
The road to immortality is paved
With hate-induced goals.
Yet mortal men thrust into it blinded
Multiplying well-avoidable throes.
But will I ever fill that space
And appropriately
Obtain the good grace
To equip the man of my dreams
With a tool to win in this spiteful race?

When We Bleed

If I needed someone
Would you be my redemption?
If I needed 100% and nothing less
Would you offer the best of yourself;
Spooling till there’s nothing left to give?
And would you not do it free and easy

Would you bleed when we bleed to death?
Would you freeze the Atlantic to erase the threat?
Before terror brings a nation of millions to her knees?
Won’t you help us?
While there’s still an “us” breathing oxygen?
Won’t you help us?

If I came crashing down,
Would you catch me before I hit the ground?
If I called to you on a clarion,
Would the answer in the wind convey the nostrum?
Would you walk with me thro a landmine?
Can I trust you with my heart in my darkest night?

Won’t you help us?
Won’t you help us?
Won’t you help us?
Won’t you help us?

Color of Water

Celebrating Nigeria's 51st Independence Anniversary

Come on over here,
Let me shake your hand.
Do you have one minute?
Can you sit a spell with me?

I know the heart has journeyed from present;
Troubadours of imagination over-keening
Relics of that undiscovered country

I’ll show you the meaning of Africa
Ease you into my lil’ secret, soul brother;

I know
            the color
                        of water.

A river serenades the streets of the cities;
Two rivers in unbroken swells sync into unity’s axis.
The rains you witness forerun the breakers of prophecy.
Ain’t it all so clear for you to see?

Hey, Beautiful, you must be from my country.
You ain’t flauntin’ marks of a tribe over your identity,
You’re sprung on a dialect of 300; your swagger’s a culture of peace.

Say, you sure, you ain’t from Nigeria?
Come and I’ll fill you in on a wee secret, soul sister;

I fetched
             the color
                         of water.

I never forget a color.
Han, han, not this one.
It’s the instant image that springs up
At the mention of you.

The flush of green sprayed over your landscape
That reaches out thro’ you.

See?
I never forget a color.
I open the door and reality hit me like a hammer.
I saw stars and I saw the color…
                                                of water.

I know the color of water
And it sure as the next sunrise ain’t tribal;

I know
             the color
                         of water

It’s West African sepia.
