Day 30: One Nine Five

195!
Boko Haram your plot’s gone live.
I blew you out of the water
Might as well halt your mass slaughter.

Had to spread the message: ‘Pot is scum;’
So you blew up school kids in Potiskum,
Right?
So what’s the 411 on 195?

Could ‘5’ represent the month of May?
And the 19 be your anticipated doomsday?
Is your plan to copy the 1928 Mather Mine explosion?*
Where 195 miners out of 279 met their creator?
Gonna blow the 195 Chibok girls straight to oblivion?
Stage your final stand with rivers of innocent blood?

I know you’re up to something
And I don’t like sounding negative.
But I feel like I’ve done the math.
195 corresponds to, I think,
The sum total of NYC’s terror attacks
Since the incident of September eleven.**

They pitched the first Chibok escapees at fifty seven;***
That’s roughly the count of IED incidents in NYC.****
Did you plot the schoolgirls’ escape to begin with?
So you’ll give false hope to the many who believe?

But we’ll yield no quarter to defeat.
We are the champions of our destiny.
195
Would be the symbol of our triumphant fight.

* The Mather Mine disaster refers to the events surrounding an explosion that occurred in the Mather Mine on May 19, 1928 in Mather, Pennsylvania.

Day 30: Amanam

"Amanam" (sounds like /harmattan/) is the
Ibibio word for "Bravo!" "Good job!"

Amanam
And so I give you a hand
Cause you held your own like a man
You stood strong in your faith
And achieved the miracle of moving mountains
You sneered in the face of fate
And accomplished victories and still counting.

Amanam
Even opposition knows you can
You came from so very far away
Piercing dark clouds like a star
And the world can no longer wait.

Amanam and so I give you a hand.

Day 30: Kensinsi

"Kensinsi" (pronounced /ken sin see/) in Ibibio/Efik (a Nigerian dialect)
translates "forever."
By the way, that's not yours truly in the image above. It's Dad and Mom
who my brothers and I fondly call "Sir & Mma." 1st of July marks 20 years
of Sir's passing. I thought I'd start off celebrating his life early this year.

Kensinsi
You are a never-ending story,
You bought my respect thru the dreams you made real.

Kensinsi
I dedicate my life to illustrate the lil things
You set in motion which turned a simple life extraordinary.

Kensinsi
You are my hero, my shero; you taught me to believe
So I can stare failure between the eyes and still find reprieve

And it's always been that way with you
And me as a kid running around without a clue;
You are the reason I always managed to pull thru.
It will take kensinsi to show I appreciate you.

That's why I owe you,
Kensinsi
Ain't nobody gon' take the place reserved for you, kensinsi;
In my heart I raised two thrones and crowned you King and Queen.
It's all about you can't you see?
With me and you it's kensinsi.

I love you kensinsi nsinsi. (Forever and ever)

Day 30: Yama!

Courtesy: Taiñ Aleÿea

Yama! (sounds like Yammer) is the Ibibio (one of Nigeria’s several dialects) word for Shine! or Sparkle!

Let all creation hold its peace
And admire the sparkle of a star.
And feel the warmth of your aura as you bling
Show em you aint got no time for drama.

Yama!
Standing out with you is easy because youre brilliant.
The blackness within gushes through your persona
Igniting your world, guiding the lost in the dark.
It's no wonder they call you peculiar, you're phenomenal.

Yama!
When you step out you reveal a whole new aspect,
You came a long way and you deserve that respect.
Stayed on your grind until you fine-tuned your style
They thought they figured you out; they was a mile wide.

Yama!
The verve you pour into your job set you apart.
Your passion; your stand; your actions fire up your swag.
Your pace in a maze is exemplary; you are the ace.
The grace on your face is the preface of a rare race.

Yama!
Because you are a star.
Yama!
Cause you have raveled the plan.
Yama!
Make this world a better place
You create smiles when you blaze...

Yama!
