It is important we know

That we have come

And to know that what we know

Is a war half won

To the point of self-apprehension

And we must make a decision

Only to flunk a struggle

For this time love;

An impending hurdle.

Not a crowd

But a people with funk

And hope profound

Trailing the flames of withering injustice

You have arrived on a verse of one million realities.

Like the verdict to a racist world,

Thru the voice of the printed word.

You have initiated a poetic odyssey;

Planted a seed in the soil of a young mind.

You are the raceless nation's oracle of prophecy

I hope to meet in that big ghetto in the sky.
