Covid-Related

Courtesy: UNHCR

Darkness falls across the land,

Shooting straight from the East;

From the pockets of Wuhan,

A plague spat from the belly of the beast

A chip of the Apocalypse

Surrounds you in its mist

Then punch you in the gut

With a iron fist

That throws your windpipe into lock. 🔒

The Reaper awaits with his scythe,

His footsteps alien and lithe.

You gotta be Spiderman

Or you's a dead man:

Wear a mask, 😷

Wash your hands,

And hog your distance.

Last year, there wasn't no Christmas 🎄

It would be a shame if Santa Claus

Was down with the Corona.

If we all could share love

On the same level we caught the virus:

With a hug, 🤗

Thro a cough,

In a simple touch,

We'd stare wars

Down and call its bluff.

We'll tear down walls

By a sneeze n' a stomp.

But even tho we y'all separated

We still Covid-related.

We can do this

Heart to heart ❤️we'll knock this.

Roll out the vaccines for everybody,

People of all nationalities

Let's include the refugees,

Together, we'll erase this disease.

Long Story Short

Courtesy: UNHCR

After all has been said and done

Like phantom tears from the heart of the sun,

The lust for war gives rise to refugees

Passion for bloodshed sprouts displaced persons.

After all that's said is the bomb

That empties Tigray into Sudan,

Then the slugs of a gun is enough

To send Shona scurrying to Kenya.

All that's said

And all that's done

Wakes the walking dead

And evokes a world undone;

People absolved of all feeling

Eat the heart of the living.

We bleed when they feel the need

To redeem the essence of their greed.

Have you ever had

To turn your back

On your home never ever have to look back

Until the distance between you two was far back

And the only memories of home you have

Was all dark and way back

Cause your misery was stark

Strung by the fact of your lack

And your mind is racked

The insanity is stacked

Like diamonds on Liberace packed

Up in his suite guarded by his pack

Have you ever had

To wake up in the dark

And reminisce about the past

You lost while your future's in the dark

Have you ever turned your back

Just to get whacked

Upside your head by a backstab

Ain't nobody there watching your back

No buddy wants to lend a hand

All they want to do is hack

You down to the hot slab

Man, you're stateless n' that's a fact

Tho they know you can't go back

Still they demand you depart

Have you ever had to part

With the sum of your parts

To trade it all for a harsh,

Undeserving, unwelcoming trash.

Hypocrites with snouts that bark

Who give you a runaround but cut no slack

Behind you you can still hear guns Klick-Klack

So you're stuck cause you can't go back.

Thicker Than Blood

World Refugee Day

I took a ride
In the passenger side
By my best friend’ side
And I got hit by surprise
Like a one-two punch to the side
When the ghastly sights
Paid out in the deep of my mind
Time to do right's never been this tight

As I bend the corner
There's structures scattered from hell to breakfast
School's been out since summer
And don't look like it'll be back by November
We may not stop the rain of leaves in October
But with open arms we can show em it's far from over
Arm in arm as one people we grow stronger
Thro the storm with refugees we stand together

The lives and future of millions
Rest on the pinions of our opinions
They sailed from afar seeking a new Zion
Fleeing a dungeon they once called home
It's our turn to offer them hope
Bring them into the fold initiate a reunion
Give them warm embrace like true companions
